English 9 summative assessment HS

Is there anyway for a student to prep for this? DS thinks there isn't...

In my 9th Grade English class, we have been doing warmups all year that have similar questions to the Assessment.

Good question... my kid has been scoring 100% all MP, is usually around 95th percentile on the MAP-R, and just got a low B on this assessment. It's only 10% of his MP grade so doesn't change it, but I want to ask him what happened with this test, just to ensure that he's actually learning whatever is needed this year.

How did you find out your child’s score? My kid just took it this week because the teacher was sick last week. Not clear why they couldn’t do it with a sub

It was posted on ParentVue yesterday, which I think was the same day he took it. I think he said it was a computer-based multiple choice assessment.

Did any of your kids get info about the topic or format of this?

Looking forward to my kid taking a test on content that was never taught in class and homework because the "Honors" English teacher didn't believe students were capable of learning but still wanted to make sure it was easy to get an A.

What are the warmup questions like?

There is ZERO information about this test content online, on public websites, Canvas, ParentVue, ParentSquare, Classroom, MySxhoolBucks, etc,. And the regular classroom content isn't a reliable guide because the test comes from an external source, not the teacher.

My kid took it last week and said the format was read a passage and answer multiple choice questions about it. He felt it was easy and he did well on it.

That explains why my kid said "Uhuh... maybe I didn't read the questions correctly" when I asked him why he did so poorly... it's pretty different from what they've been doing the rest of the year (and I don't think reading comprehension is his forte)... live and learn. Guess it's more of an SAT type test then. Agree that it would be good if we got a bit more info on it... in fact, his grade (82.4) corresponds to 14/17, so I wonder if they just had 17 multiple choice questions.

Yup. All of it is multiple choice reading comprehension

My kid said the teacher gave them the passages a week ahead of the test.

My kid got 75%! I’m shocked because their MAP-R score is crazy high and they have high A’s in class. What is this score used for besides 10% of the grade?

To my knowledge its just for the 10% of the grade. It sounds like its basically feeling out whether the county should bring back exams.
