Dating frequency

When you first start dating someone who is local and you hit it off, how often do you expect to see them in person?

We both have kids so twice a month when out non parenting days overlap

There is no right answer, only a compatibility question. I have kids at home and a lot of friends and hobbies I want to spend time on, so I look for same. I see my current BF on average 1x week (and less when we started). Sometimes not for 2 weeks and sometimes for a whole weekend. We miss each other when we go too long but appreciate that we have similar demands on our time. I have friends with no kids at home that would be tweaked at any less than 2x. I could never date someone that made those demands on my time.

It really depends on your schedule and also your communication styles. For example, I am not a texter - so I like to see the person I am dating as that is when we chat. Texting for me is for logistics - not talking. I don't really enjoy video calls either but will do them occasionally. So for me at least a couple times a week in person is essential if we are going to get to know each other.

I would say 1-2 times a week, but some people have ren too busy for that--with kids, work, or other romantic partners they didn't want me to know about.

I am 44M, usually go on dates atleast 2x/week.

2-3 a week when I have the kids and 3-4 days, usually an extended get together, when I don't.

sorry that's not an expectation just what is.

for expectations, the people i know who are dating are empty nesters and they definitely spend 3 or more days a week with whoever they are dating. both with kids it's more complicated but usually 1-2 times a week.

i know a few people posted on here that they see their partner less but i personally don't know anyone like that.

What’s local? You know better than date someone who lives in your building right?

I’m 40F with kids. Once a week when I don’t have my kids is ideal for me, I like some space so I start missing them, I have a lot going on in my life, and I really hate just hanging out around the house with whoever I’m dating. I’d rather do something productive.

However, I’m dating a guy without kids who would literally be around me 24/7 if he could. So our compromise is 4-5 times a week, but if it’s not an actual date, he comes to my place and either brings dinner or helps cook it.

When I first started dating my husband and we had no kids, I'd say at least once a week for dinner, hopefully twice (once during the week and once on the weekend). Exceptions obviously were if either of us was particularly busy with work or traveling for work or otherwise. If you're talking post-divorce dating and you have kids I'd think you'd see each other a lot less.

This matters. I lived in Vienna and my husband lives in Clarendon but he commuted to Chantilly and I commuted to downtown, so although we were "local" we spent most of our hours nowhere near each other and couldn't easily meet up for dinner or drinks after work without commuting first (which obviously pushed the time back). If you both lived and worked in Lexington, VA, for example, that's a different story since you'd be within 5 minutes of each other all day.

As PP said it matters what you mean by local, it matters if you have kids, it matters and how early in the relationship.

Early early in the relationship I'd say once a week is pretty normal. Later on if no kids more than that if you live within 15-20 minutes of each other.

If you have kids or you live further apart it's all over the map.

Are you just dating or in a relationship? That matters.
