I have a LBD that I absolutely love wearing. It fits me perfectly and makes me feel pretty and confident. The thing is, it has some details that make it unique.
Three years ago I wore it to an event where 2-3 couples who were there, will also be at my upcoming event. NO picture were taken at the last event, just throwing that out there. Do you think you’d remember (or even care) that someone wore the exact same dress at the next event you attended together? |
| Maybe if you looked very very spectacular in it, I would remember it. But then I'd totally understand why you wore it again. |
|
PP here,
I certainly wouldn't care or judge you if you wore the same dress twice in 3 years. |
|
Is this a serious question? You think people would a) remember and b) care if you wore a dress twice within three years?
No wonder people think DC is batshit insane. |
Only if it made any sort of impression in the first place. If it was understated or otherwise unremarkable, probably not. |
|
Wait who doesn't rewear dresses to events? The idea that you'd buy new dresses for every event seems bonkers and wasteful to me.
Anyone who judges someone for wearing the same dress ever, let alone 3 years apart would just be a big jerk. |
| I might remember but definitely would not care. I have worn many items multiple times in front of friends. It's normal. It would be more unusual to never repeat wear a cocktail or formal dress, as most people don't have more than a few in their closet. Sure, some people will rent clothes and that will result in always having new items, but most people don't do this. Some other people might just have huge wardrobes, but I think especially as society has gotten more casual in general, it's just very uncommon for people to have lots of formal clothes sitting around. |
I wouldn’t go as far as to say I look spectacular, but it just fits perfectly and makes me feel good when I wear it. People compliment the dress, not necessarily me. |
|
Probably not an LBD. That's one of the beauties of a great LBD, you can wear it to so many things -- it's a dress to be worn over and over.
I would probably remember a dress that was "different," or that stood out in some way. If it were red or teal or yellow or something, or had sequins, or a mandarin collar, etc.... |
OP's question is not remotely insane. |
| Nope, especially not a black dress, but if you're that worried about it, change up the jewelry or scarf. |
| I wouldn’t remember a LBD but might remember if the dress were unusual or striking in such way, such as it has a bold pattern or unusual cut. And I also wouldn’t judge you if I did recall the dress. |
Fast fashion wasn't a thing until recently so people used to invest more into their clothing and repair it more. |
|
I have unique clothes (from vintage, long-gone collections) that I wear several times a year, every year. Some of them are highly recognizable because they have unusual embroidery, cuts or patterns.
It's OK for someone to recognize an item. It's good! It means you take care of your clothes and love them enough to re-wear them. They're quality and stand the test of time. Throw-away clothes are the worst. |
It's pretty insane. If you said "Hey, I'm going to a wedding and three months ago I went to a wedding with some of the same crowd, do you think wearing the same dress is weird" I'd say that wasn't insane. We're not talking about three months. We're talking about three years. |
