Lottery based (MSMC) or criteria based (humanity/STEM)?
|
You know if criteria-based were out, there would already be a 30-page DCUM topic. Must be MSMC. |
But it seems that it is much earlier this year. Results are out mid Jan, which is NOW.
|
| Received our MSMC results in the mail yesterday, but nothing about the criteria based magnets. Not even notification of whether my child was entered into the lottery or not. They have high test score comparatively in our home ES |
| Criteria magnets are NOT out. MSMC (Loiderman, Parkland, Argyle) letters went out late last week and ours arrived Saturday. |
it's the same letter. You will get one letter saying whether they were entered into the pool or not for each program, and the results. If in pool, it will say if they got a lottery slot at the magnet(s) or whether they will be provided enrichment at the home ES. [note that I'm just conveying what the letter says, not saying there will actually be enrichment at the home school.....plenty of other threads on that]. |
Should be out this week

When your kid goes to high school, they will have to go to the regional magnets which will be watered down anyways so I don't get why anyone still cares about these magnets.

Do you mean the home MS? That sounds like the CES lottery letter but maybe it’s basically the same |
Yep it is the same format as the CES letter.
|
| What and which scores do they use for criteria based or interest based lottery? MAP math and MAP R from the fall of 5th grade only? |
The CES and middle school criteria-based magnet processes are extremely similar, except that in middle school there's the math/science pathway rather than just the ELA/humanities one. And the timeline is shifted a few months earlier. And the local humanities enrichment offered in MS is in social studies rather than English. But other than that, it is almost identical. MSMC is a totally different process on a different timeline. |
Interest-based/MSMC doesn't use test scores. The criteria based info is here-- looks like it is fall MAP-R, and the better of spring or fall MAP-M: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/specialprograms/middle/ |
