B/G twin naming advice

Anonymous
Expecting B/G twins in late March..DH and Are struggling with names. For our son we're down to Marcus, Carter, Malcolm or Elias

For our daughter we only have Vera

Thoughts? Advice and suggestions.

I like all the names, but if I was doing something gently old fashioned like Vera, I wouldn't pair it with Carter which has a modern feel.

Vera and Elias or Vera and Marcus would be my choices.

I like that both pairs have the same feel. Well known, easy to pronounce and spell, and yet not super common. Good choices.

I don’t like Vera. Carter is my favorite of the boy names.

I really like Marcus, but I’m also German and it’s fairly common there. Sometimes spelled with a k, because, well, German. I wanted to name our 2nd Marcus.

However. DH is black and pointed out to me that it is fairly commonly used in the black community, and many people might automatically know or assume someone with that name is black. That’s just for your information if that matters to you at all.

Since DH mentioned that (it was quite a few years ago, my kids are older now) I did notice the trend. Anecdote of course.

agree with this ref the race assumption
Vera is an old lady name, maybe use it as a middle name if its special to you.

How about Grace? Or Natalie?

Vera is the blond waitress on that TV show.

I am not a fan of Vera, either. As another poster said "it's an old lady name."

I love the suggestion of Grace. I don't know if it's super popular now or not.

The name Alice comes to mind, which has an older feel, but not as dated as Vera.

Vera seems hard to hear / understand. Try using it at Starbucks and see.

Vera is great!

I like your boys names as well, but agree with the poster who said Vera doesn't sound like a great match for Carter.

Please don't wore about matching names, they are individuals, help them carve out their own identities by finding names that are not matched and help the world seen them as not a matched set.

My kids haven't been together since KG.

Few know they are twins so the name issue never comes up

Pick what names you like

I like Vera and Elias.

My issue with Malcolm is that it starts with "Mal" which means bad. I understand the name comes from a different origin, but it still feels wrong to name a baby something that starts with bad/evil.

I like Vera. It doesn't feel old fashioned to me, and if it is, that means there won't be a ton of kids with the same name.

Elias is a family name in my family and I would advise against it- it’s always mispronounced.

As some have mentioned, Vera sounds like an old lady. I would dig a little deeper with the girls names.
