My hair is very fine but I have a lot of it. Some days it is curly, sometimes wavy, and sometimes decides to go straight. My cut is pretty good and accommodates the differences well enough.
I am looking for something lightweight - a serum, maybe? - to help tame the frizz when it occurs. Everything I’ve tried just weighs it down and makes it feel greasy. Recommendations? |
| Olaplex 3,4&5 and 7, and get a dyson air wrap. The ID is better than the conanda. |
| What are you currently doing when it becomes frizzy, are you straightening it? Is it when you leave it natural? Are you coming at brushing it? |
| I love the IGK Good Behavior 4-in-1 spray. It works 90% of the year except on those 100% humidity days. In that case I double up with Paul mitchell super skinny serum or Gisou hair oil. |
Good question -- OP what is your desired texture? I am using a run of the mill leave in and hear protecting but recently started using the Wavytalk steam straightener brush on air-dried hair and it's been a huge help for resolving my frizz issues. I can use it to make my hair stick straight, or put it on a lower heat setting and run it through my hair quick once to get loose but frizz-free, shiny waves. Being able to let hair air dry has been really helpful for preventing dryness, and the steam seems to be a lot gentler on my hair than even a diffuser. |
I’m not sure that the steam straightening would work on truly frizzy hair. Frizzy hair is caused by moisture, not dryness. That’s why our hair gets frizzy in humidity. My guess is that the steam straightener is gentler to get your hair from wavy to straight but won’t actually reduce frizz. |
| I agree a steam straightener has left my hair with a super weird texture and more frizzy, but glad it works for the PP. For me personally I use the shark flexstyle , which makes it look like a blowout every time I use it. |
| I am Arab and have very kinky frizzy and fine hair. I stopped chemical straightening because it made it fall out so now I use colorwow or Chris McMillan anti frizz heat protectants. I blow dry my hair with a traditional blow dryer (not a blow dryer brush because it breaks off hair) and then I use an aerosol heat protectants before using a flat iron with a straightening brush (learned that from the Black women community). |
With which attachment and what type of hair do you have? |
PP here. I just did a little research on steam straighteners and it seems the theory is that because they get the hair wet (which is more malleable) they can straighten hair more quickly than a regular flat iron. That means potentially less damage and straighter hair. But it’s not that the steam “hydrates the hair” or whatever nonsense they say in ads. If the tool works properly it is because it quickly adds moisture, straightens, then evaporates the water. But if the tool isn’t working properly or is hard to use then yeah seems like it could leave you with frizz. |
Wavy but frizzy (gross) medium thickness. I’m 45 now though and losing some of the wave as hormones kick in. Still I get the same results as I did when I was younger and wavier. I use the large round attachment or the paddle brush. If I’m going out and want more body I also use Velcro curlers after I do a section with the round brush. I personally did not like the curl wrap attachment That’s similar to the Dyson. Not enough tug on my hair to keep it from frizzing. |
| I've tried it all. I have thin hair, but I have a ton of it! Try using EVA NYC hair mask at the end of your shower (leave it in for 3-5 minutes). Brush it out and then apply OUAI leave-in conditioner. USE the Revlon dryer (nothing works better than this--even the Dyson). Follow up with a tiny bit of the OUAI hair oil. Then, twist it into a tight bun until you're ready to go out. |

OP here — I WFH so mostly leave it air dry vs using tools unless I have to go out early. It is really fine so it gets crispy way too easily if I use heat regularly. The weather pretty much dictates the amount of curl on any given day.
It’s really only in menopause that this frizziness has begun. For years I’ve used aveda’s Be Curly cream and their brilliant gel, but with menopausal thinning it’s just too heavy. It gets flat AND frizzy. |
I have to disagree. I have used pretty much every drying brush out there and IMO the shark flex style gives a much nicer blowout than the Revlon hands-down. Plus the Revlon is very damaging due to the heat. |
Your hair should not get crispy from heat! Usually hair is crispy from using the wrong product. |
