If you have a child who has shown an early aptitude at Basketball in particular.. What would be the path to eventually getting them to some of the better athletic schools in the area? ie a Dematha, O'Connell, Paul VI, Sidwell, Albans etc. Is it just enrolling the child early on and seeing how things play out, or consistently attending camps at the school, other?

Open to insights and perspectives. Thanks!

How old is your kid OP?

Boys grow in MS and even HS. Early apitude is not a thing.

The best path will be Team Takeover’s top team for your child’s age group.

The best local schools for academics with basketball teams are Sidwell, Potomac, GDS, Saint Albans, St Andrew’s, Bullis, St Stephen’s St Agnes, Georgetown Prep, Landon, Gonzaga, Flint Hill, Maret, and Episcopal. With the exception of GDS, all usually field top basketball teams, but GDS recently hired a new coach whom is highly regarded and their program may very well change for the better.

The best schools for basketball are in the WCAC conference PVI, Dematha, Gonzaga, St John’s, Occonell, Good Counsel, any WCAC school except The Heights. Mount Zion, PG Academy, Clinton Grace, and Riverdale Bsptist.

And alternatively you could do a sports academy like Gillion, New Hope, Bethel ,or THE Saint James in Spingfield. I’ve even seen a kid go to Gillion for 8th grade, before attending a WCAC school the following year and it really helped his game.

Let me make a correction all the good academic schools mentioned don’t usually field "top" teams. I meant the they field "competitive” teams. They are usually competitive.
