Pupil placement- Woodson

Anonymous
Has anyone successfully pupil placed into Woodson, or any school due to distance? Woodson is 5 min from us, DC could walk or bike. The school we are zoned for is 15 to 20+ minutes by car or bus, not changing with the proposed boundary changes. Not a school quality issue, just distance- wondering if there are any routes to pupil place.

Woodson is closed for transferred. I assume you live in City of Fairfax. I think the only way is if you work at the school.

I think it is closed to transfers so not sure this works but you could see if there is a course that is offered there that is not offered at Fairfax (I am assuming this is the other school since the houses across from Woodson go to Fairfax)- something like ASL- that s multi year and not offered at other schools but not sure if that will work

Distance alone is not a recognized basis for a student transfer.

ASL is offered at Fairfax, just FYI. It's an Academy class there.

The only way is to request IB. Otherwise, you live in City of Fairfax, your kids go to City of Fairfax schools: Providence or Daniels Run ES, KJMS and FHS.

If there's a language taught at Woodson not taught at FHS, then you can transfer for that reason, but they might put you in another school with that language since Woodson is closed.

THen of course, your kid has to take that language for four years

You could move to the Woodson boundary- that is really the only solution.

NP.
Is that closed means only for this school period and would that be any new opening every new school year?

they haven't been open to transfers in at least 8 years. I don't see why that would change. And, it is a year-to-year decision so no guarantee if would be for all of high school. Best bet is to move or deal with the school you have.

I see a lot of people renting in my neighborhood, presumably to be in the Woodson Pyramid. Nice houses, too.

I hear you-- we're much closer to Lake Braddock than Woodson and that would have been much more convenient-- but there really isn't a way to do this.

Lake Braddock was open to transfer last year
