Never thought I’d wish that Nadeau would change her mind and run for another term but the slate of “candidates” for the Ward 1 seat is sad. Help! For most of them it’ll be their first paid full time employment.
Change my mind. |
People thought the same of Graham. It just keeps getting worse and worse. |
| Anyone NOT endorsed by Nadeau and the DC progressives would be an improvement. I too voted for Nadeau because of Graham's vindictiveness and corruption but she has been far worse. She has presided over the increasing downward spiral of Columbia Heights, after the DC government poured millions into it in the early 2000s. Her decriminalization of street vending has directly contributed to the massive shoplifting and the fact that even items like toothpaste are now locked behind glass all over Ward 1. She has cared not a whit for her constituents kept awake at all hours by the illegal ATVers---her milquetoast suggestion was that they needed to "soundproof" their apartments. I will vote for anyone who is willing to say that her policy positions have been disastrous. |
I thought the only two people running were Brianne’s chosen successor (Rashida something) and the DSA organizer Aparna Raj |

Terry Lynch sounds a bit unhinged. |
| He isn't unhinged, he's just incredibly persistent. He loves the District, has lived downtown for approx. 30 years and raised a family here. He knows how far the District has come in safety and re-attracting the middle class and how disastrous the Council's far left lunacy has been. He sent his (now grown) kids through DCPS. Ward 1 could do a lot worse. |

A lot of neighbors in my part of Ward 1 (which happens to include Rashida’s ANC District) are behind Jackie Reyes. She has tons of experience in government and is actually involved in our community. Many long-term residents have known her for years. Unlike a Rashida, she is NOT endorsed by Nadeau and seems reasonable, calling further things like affordable housing, but also safer/cleaner streets so that people can raise a family here. We will see how candidates position themselves when the election is closer, but being endorsed by Nadeau is not a plus for many in the neighborhood who witnessed the decline of our neighborhood due to Nadeau’s policies, along with his dismissive attitude.

That should say “her” dismissive attitude! Sorry for the phone typos. |

“Tons of experience in government.”
That’s damning by faint praise if I’ve ever seen it. 😆 |
😆 +1

Aparna Raj,
She’s rich, poor, gay, straight, a socialist, a renter, a blogger, a woman of color. Plus you get a twofer: Her husband, former ANC and secret agent Stuart Karrafa. |
She's a million times better than Bowser's chosen Jackie Reyes. I had the displeasure of working with Jackie in DC government--nice enough, really good at seeming determined to do whatever the job is, but not a person who can handle multiple points of view or coming up with solutions. I got the chance to speak with Raj--she has it. Smart as hell and has principles. As for her husband, if you don't know the story, he was the subject of a hit piece by disgraced hardcore rightwinger James O'Keefe's Project Veritas when a State Department employee. I don't know where "secret agent" comes from, but these days it's pretty clear that Project Veritas was the tip of the spear for Project 2025. Anyway, I talked to him after talking to Raj and he seems like a cool guy. |
| Whatever happened to Kent Boese? He ran against Nadeau a few years ago and was a popular ANC rep for several terms. |
| Boese is the executive director for the office of ANCs. Ward 1 would be lucky to have him on the council. |
|
Stuart Karrafa made himself an easy target. One by running his mouth about his work habits and intentions at the State Dept. and two by making enemies he shouldn’t have made in DC.
Foolish little man. |
