I saw the story this am in the NYT. Ihad never heard of him but when I read the headline my first response was of course he did.

He's very famous in the kind of Christian circles I moved in as a child (we used to call ourselves "evangelicals" but it had fewer political overtones back then).

I'm still deeply Christian, but my first reaction was "power corrupts." The idiots in American Christianity have made celebrities of certain people, and that gives them a certain amount of power, and with a few notable exceptions they pretty much all do this.

His poor, poor wife who thinks she has to stay and care for him as he dies of Parkinsons (!) for her faith. And the husband of the affair partner. Those are the Christians I feel for.

It's fine (now). We're doing great. But it does not surprise me. Many of these folks are in it for the adulation.

That's a really horrible thing to say and thought to live by. Did it ever occur to you that you are simply choosing "terrible" men and the problem is your evaluation of them?

Yeah.... but this all encompassing idea of "sin" is silly. Stealing a grape from the grocery store is not murdering someone.

A pastor should at least not be taking actions that destroy lives.
