People who come off slimming jabs regain weight four times faster than dieters

New study in a top medical journal, The British Medical Journal, states that people who come off GLP-1 drugs regain weight four times faster than dieters.

"People buying these need to be aware of the risk of fast weight regain when the treatment ends," warns investigator Dr Susan Jebb, from Oxford University.

I guess if you are on these drugs, you accept that you take them for life.

Yawn. This has been discussed in 1000 threads already.

Please get over it.

Some people will be on the medication for a few months or a few years. Some who stop will regain weight. Some who stop will maintain their weight. Others will stay on the medication for life. None of these 3 groups has ANY IMPACT on you or your life. Carry on with whatever you want to do to maintain your own weight and your own health.

I am an on again off again user. I take the shot during high stress times when I am mostly likely to over eat then go months not taking it. It works for me.

The problem is that most people don't plan to stay on it for life, and most people do regain the weight. And they do impact my life directly - one of these people is a family member whose health is impacted, and it also impacts the cost of health insurance and, because some government worker plans cover these drugs, the money available to fund public services.

If however you use GLP-1 is working for you and improving your health, I have zero problem with it and I think any costs I pay via insurance/taxes are worth that. My problem is the use of a very expensive drug in ways that cause more harm than good.

GLP-1 drugs are not a substitute for self-control.

Who are these people that are coming off of it?

Yes, it's a medical treatment for those who have health issues and serious obesity. It's not for people who need to lose 20 pounds or less.

This most people who let themselves get that far don’t have great self control so not surprising that they’d regain the weight.

That’s like saying people don’t plan on ever taking insulin for the rest of their life.

Or statins

Or blood pressure medicine

This is a life-saving medication that people will be on their lives like many other medication’s

It is not about self control. Would you say the same to a person who needs insulin because their body doesn't make it?

Most people on this drug have major medical issues that have caused them to be obese and this drug doesn’t treat the underlying condition so obviously they’re gonna have to stay on it for life even if they microdose
