"older" Ladies - Nightime bathroom trips??

Anonymous
I am 62 and noticed that I have to get up to pee way more often than I did years ago. I used to sleep all night without ever getting up and now, I get up at least 1x and sometimes 2x. I already limit my liquids. I feel like a an old man with an enlarged prostate!!

I have read that post-menopause can do this. Obviously, I will discuss with my doctor but curious what others have experienced. I do use the vaginal estrogen cream FYI.

TIA!

You might be retaining water in your legs, and if so, try to sit with your feet elevated an hour before bed. It has worked for me, I'm 59.

I’m 53, I get up at least once, often twice a night. This has been the case for several years. I try very hard not to drink anything after 7pm and it still happens.

Do you take estrogen?

Yes, mentioned in the op that I use vaginal estrogen. I have read that could be the culprit

Once is normal if you aren't drinking water after bed.
I to twice because I drink water the first time. I get constipated otherwise or poop too late in the morning.

I did this before vaginal estrogen. Vaginal estrogen helps frequent urination.

Consider whether you are really waking up because you need to pee...or if you are waking up because you aren't sleeping as well as you used to, and once you are awake then you need to pee.

For me, it is the former.

No, I think vaginal estrogen should make it less likely that you have to pee at night, not more?

Front load your water earlier in the day.

This started for me at 47. May or may not be related to a fibroid that is in my uterus, which could be pushing up on my bladder. Or the perimenopause. Or because I drink more water now that I've started getting UTIs. It's hard to untangle.

I had to get up 1-2 times a night to pee. It turns out I had hyperparathyroidism. I had a parathyroidectomy and was literally cured immediately.

I no longer wake to pee even though I am 59 and in full menopause. The difference it has made to my quality of sleep and thus my mood, cognition and memory is incredible.

My urologist wants me to get up once in the night to help prevent the formation of kidney stones. I wouldn’t worry about getting up once.

NP, for me it's the latter. I don't have to pee when I wake up but like 3 minutes later I do.
