Am I a horrible parent? Has this happened to anybody else?

Anonymous
There are times when I will be walking and my kids will just stop DIRECTLY in front of me, Or I will turn around in one of my kids is right there. Constantly under foot. I really do try to look down When I am walking, but my kiddos I still small, and run all over the place. A lot of of the times this leads to me tripping them accidentally, knee checking my toddler in the face,or even Tripping over them. I feel absolutely horrible as a parent when this happens. Have other parents done this?

When I start hurting myself or others, it’s a sign for me to slow down. It means I’m trying to do too much, too quickly. So I’m guessing that while some of it is, of course, your kids not knowing personal space yet, some of it is that you aren’t as aware of your surroundings or theirs because your mind is elsewhere, you’re tired, or you’re going too fast.

So try to slow down, be more aware, take care of yourself.

My son was like this at that age. Yes I felt terrible when I tripped over him, but he outgrew it and doesn’t do any more.

Are you obese?

I’m obese and have never done what OP is describing.

No, I've never called my children "kiddos." Please stop that.

They'll be fine and they will be fine.
Can't say that it has happened to me. I usually know where they are as my senses work well.
My senses follow people around somehow, not just my own kids.

This is a great response. My son was like this and I agree that it’s a sign to slow down a bit. But you are not a horrible parent! Give yourself some grace!

lol. I bet you have a shared genetic clumsiness! This also used to happen to me - me and my DS are both spatially unaware and clumsy.

Constantly! A strange combination of obliviousness and attention-seeking.

One of my kids has a frustrating habit of often abruptly stopping in doorways. The other has no sense of personal space and always ends up inches away from you.

This happened to me when my kids were younger. It's not a big deal.

If this is the worst way in which you are seeing up your children then you are doing great

No. Perhaps you have ADHD or something? Are you usually clumsy? When my kids were very small, stopping in doorways, getting distracted, etc, I was always hyper aware of where they were and how they were moving. I moved carefully around them.
