50% DOD increase but they cannot pass a financial audit

This is infuriating. The administration bleats about waste and fraud everywhere else yet the most blaring obvious waste and fraud is in our defense budget. They yet again failed their financial audit as they do every year!

Meanwhile Trump wants a 50% increase in defense spending.

If DOD cannot pass a financial audit, our tax dollars don't need to pay for their budget increases.

Obvious waste and fraud in DOD plus probably the defense contractors adjacent to them.

OP again. I forgot DOD is now DOW, but I think DOW stands for Department Of Wasteful spending.

Agree. Trump and his unfit cabinet are the biggest waste of tax payer money.

Where's DOGE when you need them? Oh, right.

You could have also ended that title with either "a physical fitness test" or "an IQ test".

What does it mean for them to not pass an audit? Does it mean contract awards didn't follow the correct rules? That funds are unaccounted for and missing? Or something else?

Can you explain to me why it's bad beyond what I could speculate without any actual understanding of it?

1. DOD has not passed an audit ever. That has been the case for years

2. Contract awards went to Trump's cronies so no they did not follow the correct rules.

3. Yes many funds are missing taxpayer $ most are going to Trump's private account. It has a fancy name but it's him.

https://www.taxpayer.net/budget-appropriations-tax/why-cant-the-pentagon-pass-an-audit/

"About 58 percent of the material the Pentagon possesses ($36.9 billion worth) are items it does not need.

Over the past three years, the Navy lost track of $3 billion in equipment and other items.

At one distribution center for the Navy, there was a backlog of over 122,000 items that had not been properly processed, leading the Navy to purchase items it didn’t need.

The $600 billion Pentagon inventory of weapons systems and other items failed to include nearly $6 billion in Army communications defense equipment, $7.6 billion in Navy aircraft engines and about $7 billion in Air Force electronic pods that attach to warplanes.

The GAO testimony follows a March report by the office of the Defense Department’s Inspector General that concluded that the Pentagon’s books were in such disarray that they couldn’t be audited. In fact, the Pentagon’s books are in such poor shape that the military’s money managers last year made almost $7 trillion in adjustments to their financial ledgers in an attempt in make them add up.

The Inspector General also concluded the Pentagon could not show receipts for $2.3 trillion of those changes and half a trillion dollars of the adjustments were corrections of earlier mistakes."

^^

Epitome of waste and fraud and somehow Republicans don't seem to froth and foam at the mouth about it.

Probably because most of the ill-documented and wasteful spending goes to Republican run companies

The defense budget is already effectively 1.3/1.4 billion when u include VA, which is a defense personnel cost. So really we’re talking a lot more. This is just bluster. We can’t afford it.

I assume he wants to increase the budget for his imperialist Dunroe Doctrin wars and defending us after p*ssing off most of the world. However, sorry, if we can't account for where the money is going, solve that first. Oh, and figure out healthcare.

Republicans are blatant hypocrites because they wail about waste and fraud everywhere else, but ignore the biggest elephant in the room and want to double the elephant's size.

Republicans are suspiciously quiet on this. Guess they don't care about fiscal responsibility after all.
