Art Classes for Upper Elementary

DC loves painting and drawing and would like to take art classes. It seems like a lot of “Arts Camps” and afterschool programs don’t actually teach art, they supply basic materials and some ideas for craft projects. Where can we go for actual classes?

As others have said where do you live? I feel like that really matters. Art House 7 in Arlington has great classes for what you’re talking about. They have summer camps as well.

I understand art studios to be places where artists can rent space to work. Not sure they typically organize art classes for kids. Is this a misunderstanding on my part?

There is a place in Vienna called New York School of Arts that offers art classes. My daughter has enjoyed their painting and drawing classes.

Artworks Fine Art Studio has 3 locations.

Bethesda, Potomac, and Falls Church. They offer art classes throughout the year and also host a full summer camp program.

They actually teach your kids. Kids can a try a free class to see if they like it
