Good surprises from kid home from college

Anonymous
My non-musical DS20 (fought like crazy over forced piano lessons as a child) has taught himself to play guitar during this 5 week winter break. We gave him the guitar 10 years ago and it has never been touched till now. I have love listening, and this afternoon I hear a beautiful falsetto singing voice too. I never knew. Anyone else with nice surprises?

My son learned piano/keyboard from his roommate.

He can free flow jazz.

This is OP. Do you think the musical part of their brains didn’t develop until now? Or just exposure led to interest? My daughter has been musical since she was 6, but he fought it.

Well this is lovely, OP. The reason is girls, in case you were wondering.

My son made dinner for the family - a new recipe he'd found and made for himself at college. So cool he can find recipes and cook - and that he was willing to make it for us. Can't remember the last time anyone other than me made a new meal!

This.

My DS smells good, dresses well, shaves, gets haircuts, earns money, cooks, cleans, drives a stick shift, interested in cultural events, does laundry, hosts and shops for groceries...

I think that's charming!

Something similar to that happened to my son when his roommate could play guitar and was somehow always gathering a crowd of girls under the tree in the quad.

My son went "huh" and came home and picked up his dusty guitar, too.

My husband and I were joking for a while about it, singing "I gave my love a cherry, that had no stone ...."

Son didn't get it but we got a good laugh out of it

Paid Summer job secured. In the area they’re studying.

We are thrilled!

New graduated DS took the family, grandparents included out to dinner w his spot bonus. He could’ve spent that money on something fun for himself. So proud of him and grateful he thinks of us.

How sweet! My kids are both recent college grads with a new interest in cooking. Definitely enjoying their tasty contributions to the holidays.

It’s simply exposure.

Mine did the dinner dishes, without being asked to!
