| DH wants our DD7 to try some outdoor summer camp this coming summer. She has been the indoors type, does poor in most sports, cannot swim, cry if there is bruise or cut or hit by a ball, afraid of bugs etc. .. on top of it, she has long long hair that os in her way to do many sweaty or may get dirty activities. The only outdoorsy things she has done are hiking with family, splash park, play in the pool, playground, and running around. What kind of camps I could look into that she can handle it pushing her more outdoorsy this summer in montgomery county? It would be great if there are some shades, less bugs, not too wild, not too many bugs and not dangerous. |

Do you have to push this? I know people here are obsessed with outside time. IMO summer is gross here, it's crazy hot, rains and so humid, mosquitoes. Some of those all-day outside camps sound like a nightmare to me as an adult.
My kids do summer swim team, we go out on weekend mornings etc, so it's not like they are just inside or sedentary but I follow their interests re camp rather than pushing them personally. |
| Wheaton Regional has had some 'week in the park' camps that rotate through ice skating, sports pavilion, playground, train, etc. It's a nice option and not a lord of the flies kind of experience. I'd also recommend KAH day camps, they are mainly indoors but always have watersides setup, outdoor time, and at least one field trip to a pool per week. |
| I agree with the poster asking if you need to push this. I have one kid who handles heat well and has happily gone to outdoor camps. Other kid wilts in the heat and does not enjoy those camps, but doesn’t mind camps that are a mix. |
