What colleges have informed you that you can still apply (after the application due date)
Not sure if this is how they typically due it - or if it is an indicator of fewer applications. For my child, Fordham sent an email extending the application deadline and clarifying that only the application was due by that date - supporting documents can be submitted later |
| I expect many of these schools plan to “extend” their deadlines from the start, as a marketing move. (“But wait! It’s not too late!! Act now!!!”) |
| Northwestern |
| Everyone does this every year |
| You can typically submit after the due date and still be considered. Fill out the college's app in Common App, use random filler for the essays, hit Review and Submit and see what happens. If it's too late, Common App will tell you. If it's not too late, Common App will give you the preview. |
| Interesting to hear about Fordham extending the deadline when they deferred large number of EA applicants (and have asked that pool of apps to write another essay to be considered in the RD round). Sometimes none of this process makes any sense! |
i think for many of those EA applicants had very light demonstrated interest and Fordham was not going to accept without the student having some commitment. (based on the students I know who were deferred) |
Interesting as Nortwestern's RD acceptance is probably below 5%. If true, must be after rejected or wait-listed Harvard, Yale, Princeton,MIT, Stanford, and U Penn applicants. |
| they do this every time, regardless. it's not a sign, it's standard operating procedure. |
Not in our case! My student did an in person visit, met with admissions reps, etc. |
| Vassar has done this the last few years. |
So is it targeted? |
| Usually Cornell extends most years. |
| even harvard, who doesn't announce it, will take apps a day after the deadline. They'll often take them 2-3 and sometimes 5 days after the deadline. If the portal is open, you can submit. |
| I read in Fordham’s student paper that the school is trying to get its acceptance rate down. They may have gone too far the other way though and are now looking for more applicants. |
