Will data centers be a boon for the county or should they look elsewhere? The chance at redevelopment of tht Six Flags site and contiued efforts at gentrification inside the beltway (Addison Road is up next) will present challenges and opportunities
|
As an aside, what ever happened to Landover Mall area ? I know they closed the mall years ago, but what happened to the property ? I think the Learners owned it. |
The Lerners still own it and they’ve just let it be a rotting eyesore. I can’t believe a data center is the best they can do with a chunk of land right by the beltway. One exit down there’s a huge, thriving mall. |
Sorry to hear. I used to go there in high school. Movies and Friendly ice cream. |
Aren’t the Lerners also the owners of the rotting eyesore that is former White Flint Mall in MoCo too? |
Correct |
I think they hold onto properties until the local government gives them corporate welfare to develop the land. It seems like MoCo is about to give in and do exactly that. |
People need to fight against the data centers. It will not benefit the county. It will drive up the power bills, bring noise pollution and air pollution. Don't make the same mistake Northern Virginia made. |
Disgusting. This should be illegal. |
| I just can’t believe that the huge Wegmans etc thing across the beltway can thrive, as it appears to do, and a data center is really the best they can for this parcel. |
|
We don’t want the data centers. We’ve seen what they do to other communities.
If they are so great to have, MoCo and HoCo should fight for them. |
Agree. |
They just write them off on their taxes. It's a win for them. |
That outdoor mall development they have there with the Wegmens is really impressive. I went to the Nando's on the way back from a Navy football game. Everything was clean, bright and tasty. They have some big ass houses in that part of PG County. I was surprised. |
If local governments would be steadfast about no subsidies, then the land owner behavior would change. |
