So for New Year, I'm going to attempt to read all the books in my house that for whatever reason, still remain unread - I bought them for a reason and I should get round to them. Also my DH has a ton of books I've not read, all sitting there available.
So I'm starting this year with Hanif Kureshi's The Buddha of Suburbia today. If you don't know it, it's the debut of HK, which was made into a TV series in the UK in the 1980s. I am expecting it to be dark, humorous and clever. What is everyone else reading / planning to read / what is your reading strategy for this fresh, new year? |
| Just downloaded on my kindle, "Wellness." It is a fictional story about a couple who meets in college, follows them through marriage, life, etc. Oprah book. |
Come back and tell us what you think of it PP when you're done. |
Will doš |
| The Lord of the Rings trilogy |
|
Yesterday I started on "My Italian Bulldozer" by Alexander McCall Smith.
It is about a guy who has a business trip to Tuscany and his rental car is not available. Someone loans him a bulldozer to use as transportation during his visit. I am only 45 minutes into it so far. |
My mother used to read books by that author because she found him very amusing. It sounds like this book too, is a funny one. |
| Washington Blackāhistorical fiction that considers what freedom is when juxtaposed with slavery |
| Just finished The Correspondent yesterday and today stated The Rest of Our Lives, about a guy who drops his daughter off at college in Pittsburgh and on whim just keeps driving west revisiting his past. |
I enjoyed this when I read it about two years ago. The pacing was a bit odd, and plot loose, but the satire of UMC morays and child-rearing was funny (and in its deliberately exaggerated way, spot on). |
| I'm currently reading My Friends. My goal for this year is to try to read at least 2 books per month. |
I'm going to do the same how many do you have to read? |
I haven't counted them all yet but I pulled about 10 out of the shelves already and laid them out so I can see them. There's definitely a lot more. How about you? |
| Slogging my way through Monaās Eyes. Itās a chore. |
| Started āThe Correspondentā today. āTheo of Goldenā is next. Iām aiming for 84 books this year, double what I read in 2025. |
