Colleges that don't care about demonstrated interest?

College admissions have become woefully unpredictable! I think DD has a good list but we'd like to add 1-2 more colleges just to be sure as she's only in at one safety near home. She's looking for another high target/low reach.

She's a senior so no time to show demonstrated interest to new schools. Is there 1 more she should add? Private school CC not encouraging any add ons this late in the game but DD is a combination of worried/curious if she's missing something. She's been very busy with her sport and senior year that time has been hard to come by.

Her major: Undecided social science (not psychology), maybe history or poli sci?
GPA: 3.75 unweighted (private school), 8 APs
SAT: 1510 (superscore after 2 attempts)

Some schools she has applied to already: Georgetown, American (EA waiting on answer), Loyola Marymount (EA accepted), USC, BU, Tufts, BC, Northeastern, Wesleyan, all UCs.

She's not interested in all-women schools or small LACs. She'd prefer a bit closer to a city (Wesleyan was an exception despite being a LAC and not near a city, but her favorite aunt lives nearby). Her preference is mid-sized (5-10K students) but would consider a larger uni. We are ex-DMV but based in LA now.

My instinct is that it's too late to add anything. But she says she's up to apply to 1 more if there's a good option that doesn't track Demonstrated Interest!

Fordham? Not sure about DI for them, but I think she'd get in with those stats. If NYC isn't too much for her, both campuses are wonderful in very different ways. Maybe better for history than poli sci.

Might look at Holy Cross great school with Jan15th deadline. Fantastic alumni network less than 1 hour from Boston with a lot of similarities to BC.

I think if you google whatever school's common data set, you can see if that school says demonstrated interest is important to them.

Re: Fordham- I'm not sure if they track DI but my daughter registered for both self-guided (Lincoln Center) and guided (Rose Hill) tours and someone emailed her to ask if she made it on the self-guided tour. They obviously were double checking but again, not sure how much DI matters to them.

Even schools that don't track demonstrated interest will know if you added them to your Naviance account this late in the game. The transcripts and LORs haven't been sent.

They don't penalize for getting the application in at the last minute, but my sense is that they do if you add them to your list at the last minute.

My kid was WL at a few schools that were added late December last year. I can't find the source anymore, but I did look afterwards to see if schools have access to when they were added to the common app, and they do. Some safeties may not care, but targets/reaches might. Better to have a long list in September and not apply to all than to frantically add schools in December.

PP - to clarify: ** My kid was WL at targets that looked pretty green in naviance that were added in late December.

Ah good to know - this is helpful insight!

Not all high schools even use Naviance. I doubt that schools are tracking this.

At least 10 schools already applied to, correct?

Why the need to add more?

Villanova sounds great for her and explicitly states that they don’t track DI.

Has she been rejected places? Or is it just that this waiting period is hard, and she's getting nervous?

The latter - she's just worried/nervous! She did get into Loyola Marymount U in LA through non-binding EA.

You can google "does school x track demonstrated interest" to get quick answers. Google Gemini is not fool proof, but it's easier than looking up the CDS and scroll to the specific line.
