Please recommend your excellent cosmetic derm practice or med spa for someone who needs a good consultation.
I'm 55, have never had any skin treatments, botox, fillers, etc. (I have had cosmetic surgery but that was a breast reduction). I don't even know what I want. I feel I could probably use plenty of things to look better, especially given what has happened to my skin after weight loss and menopause, but I don't know exactly what. So I need some good, honest advice and an office with skilled staff. I'm nervous about this --what can go wrong can be seen everywhere, unfortunately. I'm in Prince William, but have lived most of the past 20 years nearer to Tysons/Vienna, so familiar with most of NoVA and happy to go anywhere, even DC (I work in Georgetown). Have tried to search on here, but didn't come up with much. TIA |

Thanks! This looks promising. And I actually used to live about a block from there. |
| have you gotten sculptra from Isabella Jones by any chance? |

Waseem at Dontage for Botox
Sara at SP MedSpa for Sculptra/fillers Georgetown Rejuvenation for facials/peels Dr Shah at Capitol Laser for any lasers |
These are good recommendations OP. Dr Shah is also great for judicious filler. (I haven’t had any lasers so can’t speak to those.) |
+1 for Georgetown Rejuvenation facials |
OP here. I wasn't picturing going to multiple places, it's helpful to know that this is how it's done. Unfortunately, I don't know which of these things I need. |
I'm the PP that mentioned in the earlier thread that you can't really expect to find a place that isn't going to be biased towards whatever treatment they are selling (medspa will say fillers, plastic surgeon will say surgery, etc.) It may be that HRT, professional eyebrow maintenance, or even new makeup will make a huge difference and a medspa or derm probably isn't going to tell you that. It's the unfortunate reality that you will need to put a lot more time and research into this than you might have been anticipating if you want to spend your money wisely. Do you have any well put together friends you can talk to about what they have had done? Are you already subscribed to relevant subreddits or follow cosmetic derms and/or plastic surgeons on FB reels or TikTok? FWIW, I was surprised at how many of my friends were using Botox in our late 30's. It was basically all of them and I was the last on board starting at 40. I've become pretty open about asking my friends and acquaintances what they doing with their skin, makeup, hair color etc and it's been eye opening. |
| This is a local practice with a few locations in the area and they have everything from medical derm to lasers, esthetical, etc. So easy to be a one-stop shop: dermestetics.com |
I'm already on HRT and have a good brow person (who both shapes and tints). Most of my law school friends were using botox by 30 and everyone is pretty open about what they are doing/using now (lots of upper blephs these days); but their issues are not necessarily mine, and we are spread out geographically. We are all pretty "well put together," lol -- image is important for most of us, professionally. I was genetically blessed and really haven't felt a need for anything until recent weight loss combined with menopause caught up to me. At any rate, I am glad that some have been open, and regarding those who haven't, I do consider it rude to ask about these things (especially given how often I have been asked about it, and then people thought I was gatekeeping when the answer was that I was doing nothing). The info on FB and TikTok is worth about what you pay for it. |
So you decided to ask DCUM instead... |
I'd be a little cautious about a place with 10 PAs and an offsite medical director who isn't even a dermatologist. Especially for anything relating to medical derm. These are the kind of places that John Oliver was referring to in his piece about med spas |
Also the kind of place that will be happy to sell you just about anything and everything... |
