Going on a live aboard out of Raja Ampat. I have 2 days in a major city before traveling onto Sorong to catch the boat. Would you rather spend 2 days/2 nights in Bali or KL? We don't need to visit the beach during our stop over.
No one has any thoughts? Can someone share what they've done in Kuala Lumpur or Bali that doesn't involve the beach?
Bali - spend the time in Ubud - easy to walk around town, take an excursion if desired.
Bali is nice but not amazing. Are you energetic and adventurous? If yes, you might really enjoy it. Consider taking a surfing lesson while you’re there.
PP again. The beaches in Bali are not the pristine, picturesque beaches you might be hoping for. Definitely do your research.
What major city are you spending time in? I really like KL but if you’re already going to a big SE Asian city, Bali would be different. I agree with Ubud—visit the rice terraces, the monkey forest, and a nearby temple, keeping in mind that travel around Bali is not easy as the transportation infrastructure isn’t there.
No major city. I'm going on a liveaboard diving vacation. The layover is just killing time until I head to Sorong. From what I hear, there is nothing to do in Sorong except wait for the boat to leave. |
Bali! KL needs time for excursions and finding the best restaurants but shopping isnt that great/different and I still love KL but would go for something more than a layover, like an event or tour.
Not Bali

Bali is amazing but the traffic is terrible and there’s nothing that nice near the airport. If you have 2 full days it’s doable but just barely.
KL is a much easier place to get around from the airport area. Great to dine and less touristy. There are some nice museums and cultural attractions too. The Indonesia Liveaboards are amazing-enjoy! |
