What schools have the best outplacements for Sidwell and the Cathedral schools? Are there certain schools that seem to have a better relationship with particular schools in the DMV? Based on what I have seen, it appears St Pats w/ Cathedral schools and Sidwell, Sheridan w/ GDS and Maret, and Lowell w/ Burke. Not sure about NPS or WES. I have looked at past threads but haven’t found the information that I’m looking for. Thanks!
You are overthinking this.
There's no obvious one. Washington doesn't have feeders like NYC does.
That is somewhat accurate, though kids from St Pats do go to GDS and kids from Sheridan to go to the Cathedral school, for example. It's just that other destinations are more common. |
A lot of it is just culture/community match. Sheridan and GDS are have a more similar feel than Sheridan and Cathedral Schools. Reverse is true for St. Pat’s and those schools. So more kids gravitate in those directions but high-performing students from either K-8 get accepted to all of those high schools. St Pat’s and Sheridan have different vibes so go with what feels like the right fit for your family. And if you are Cathedral schools or bust, just start at Beauvoir, assuming your child is accepted.
Agree you’re overworking and worry you’re not looking at the right things about these schools/procsss/happiness of child
This. |
NPS
What is the outplacement like at NPS?
NPS last year for girl’s was mostly NCS, Holton and Holy Child.
What about the boys?
NPS has the 7th grade placement data on its website for the past several years.
It varies yearly. If you are set on an US, start in their LS.
NPS is more limited— they do a good job with Holton, Landon, Holy Child, and NCS, an okay job with STA and Potomac. GDS, Maret, and Sidwell are hard for seventh in particular. Obviously Madeira, Prep, Visi, Gonzaga aren’t options. They send a few to Bullis, St Andrew’s, Potomac, Field, Burke at times but generally the kids matriculate to a relatively small number of schools.
It is so much better to find the right upper school for your kid when they are 14, not 5. You can find the best fit instead of the school that you hope will be the best fit. |
