Looking for recommendations for luxury adventure destinations / trips with a sense of place - think a safari in Tanzania with Singita or Antarctica cruise with Lindblad or Quark or gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
I’d put experiences that are lower on the luxury side but high on the experience / intimate size scale here too, like Khutzeymateen Wilderness Lodge. What else would you recommend? Or anything you did and wouldn’t spend the $ on in retrospect? |

What about a Nile cruise to Upper Egypt - like with Abercrombie or Oberoi? I think everyone should see Egypt...
Galapagos with National Geographic/Lindblad is currently at the top of my list. I don't love cruises, but those two destinations maybe are best by boat. I'd love a luxury India tour rec, something for the Andes, also what's great in Nepal or Mongolia? |

Agree with Galapagos but don't do National Geographic, their boats are too big/crowded. You want the smallest boat with the fewest people for the longest you can afford. Then head to the rainforest at La Selva or similar.
Take a look at Abercrombie and Kent - we've never gone wrong with their experiences |
Tip Top V Catamaran ! |
It depends how you prioritize “adventure” vs luxury. Trekking in Nepal or Bhutan can be amazing, but involves a lot of walking obviously and sometimes basic accommodations. A more luxury but less adventurous option in Nepal would be a luxury safari in the south of the country where there are rhinos, elephants, crocodiles, etc. (Nepal has had major riots, etc, lately… do your research) Komodo is amazing (check out the Plataran Komodo resort) but getting there is going to be a multi-hop trip. Usually you route through Bali for the last hop so you could do both. (The Plataran Menjangan resort in Bali is also great but is 4-5 hours from Denpasar where the airport is.) Sri Lanka has some outstanding parks. I have only been to Yala but it was a good experience… if you want to be driven around in a truck. You can’t actually hike around in the park, though there are other places in Sri Lanka where you can. Borneo is another option though the security in parts of Borneo is… not great… https://www.borneoecotours.com/visiting-borneo/travel-advisory/travel/ |

| OP here, love the suggestions so far. Does Abercrombie and Kent skew older? I’ve heard mixed things about it being tailored for an older crowd that requires more hand holding but I’m not sure if that’s accurate - it was from TA’s promoting &Beyond who I know is moving into some of the markets Abercrombie and Kent is more established in. |
| If you dive or snorkel Wakatobi Resort is wonderful. Rustic luxury. They have private charters from Bali. |

We did the celebrity cruise to Galapagos and it felt pretty high end.
I’ve been looking at the private catamarans to Blas Islands in Panama. Don’t know if that meets everyone’s definition of luxury but it looks pretty nice. Again. I don’t know if it counts as luxury but we got the suite room at El Tovar on the Grand Canyon rim and it was so awesome. It comes with an enormous patio overlooking the Grand Canyon so you can go get cheese and crackers or whatever and just dine on the edge of the canyon. It felt luxurious. I also like the dining room at el Tovar — food is good and you definitely have a sense of taste. |
| Namibia and the Bazaruto Archipelago. |
| Ecoventura is the best for the Galapagos. What an amazing trip! |
| “Sense of place?” Most of these recommendations are for hanging out with fellow rich people. How do you get a sense of place on a $20,000 NG or Linblad cruise? |
