Multiplayer video game for 14 year old boys?

Anonymous
Looking for a video game for a 14 year old. While we try to keep our child engaged actively IRL, we have seen that several multiplayer games (Minecraft, parts of Roblox) have given our child a chance to play with his friends when everyone is traveling in different states (holidays) or on days-off-school when they are all at home.

But my son seems to have aged out of healthier alternatives. Does anyone have a recommended video game for kids that are 14+ that is not violent but still interesting? We do not like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and similar because they are first person shooter games. We tried Helldivers but it is also quite violent and the other parents decided not to allow it.

First, there’s no need to feel that you need an explanation to why you’re buying video games for a 14 year old. It’s normal. My son plays, my daughters don’t. It’s interesting how it’s a majority male activity.

I would go to one of the video game stores. The clerks know everything about games. Explain what you want and don’t want and they’ll recommend the best games.

My teens play Rocket League with friends. I’m totally forgetting the name though. One also still plays Minecraft.

My 14 year old plays Apex and he can’t “talk” to the other players. The give signs or something, but not talk to them. I also think Apex looks less realistic than call of duty and other games. He really wants other ones, but so far I have told him that he can’t

I have also pointed out all the ICE people when they are like ‘it is like call of duty out here” and calling attention to the real world harm that comes from normalizing it.

Real world harm that comes from normalizing it, alas.

My teen kids play Arcane Odyssey on Roblox.

Plenty of info on it online. The characters look like Lego people.

"Maturity: Moderate, with light to realistic blood and repeated moderate violence."

I would never allow the really splattery stuff.
