| Shoes, jeans, dresses, etc.? |
| Jeans and shoes. Can’t say I notice the difference with most other stuff. |
|
IMO, things that have function. Shoes that support your feet and are comfortable. Jackets that keep you warm.
Decorative items in general would be worth less. But this is a very pragmatic boring way of looking at it. |
| Fine jewellery and watches. Leather. Furs. |
| Shoes in classic styles that fit well. With proper care, they can last more than ten years. If your feet hurt, nothing else matters. Also, nontrendy coats which can similarly be worn for years. I have gone as long as 20 years with both. |
What brands for the coats? |
DP. Coat brands that I currently have that are 10+ years old: Marmot, Lole, Barbour, Fleurette. |
| Dresses. A cheap dress is obvious in a way that a cheap top or a cheap pair of pants wouldn’t be. |
My Fleurette was good for 20 years, possibly a year or two more. The lining starting shredding after that. |
Cheaper dresses are fine for casual summer wear.Would not spend big dollars there. |

I just bought a new coat. It wasn't an overly expensive one, I got it at Banana Republic, but at about $500 it was expensive enough that it is one of the most expensive clothing items I own right now. I'm obsessed with it, and am so glad I invested in a nice one.
FWIW, I don't consider bags/shoes/jewelry "clothes." I have spent more on things like that. |
|
Coats and shoes are major for me and can last years and years.
I also tend to invest in nice sweaters and dresses, ones that are not overly trendy but timeless. |
| Cashmere sweaters! Huge difference between a $100 sweater and a $500 sweater. |
