My kid loves books of all sorts. I’m seeking something that adults will enjoy too.
Thoughts on an engaging audio book for a 4th grader and parents? |
|
Matilda, read by Kate Winslet, is amazing
Boy, autobiography by Roald Dahl, also excellent The Narnia books are great and all have wonderful British narrators Bunnicula is fun (parents had not read these books as kids, so they were enjoyable to hear) Half Magic is a terrific audiobook (These are books we listened to a decade ago and my kids and I still remember them all fondly) |

You might consider the Lord of the Rings radio dramas as well.
Neverwhere is also available as a radio drama. |
| The Weirdies |
|
The Wild Robot
The One and Only Ivan |
| Tolkien |
| Harry Potter and Percy Jackson were the first things that popped to my mind. |

There's a new Harry Potter audio series that just came out. It's supposed to be great.
At that age, my kid enjoyed listening to Holes, Eragon and Gregor the Underlander (but Suzanne Collins). |

Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman. Fun for everyone. Also The Graveyard Book and Odd and the Frost Giants.
A Place to Hang the Moon, Rooftoppers, Winterhouse, the Incredibly Dead Pets of Rex Dexter, The Doughnut Fix, Bob, any book by Rebecca Stead. |
|
The Golden Compass has a good audiobook.
The Dark is Rising has an audiobook and also the BBC adapted it recently as a radio play. I’d look for something you can actually finish on the trip. |
|
Anne of Green Gables
Narnia books Best Christmas Pageant Ever |
Second the recommendation for the BBC production of The Dark is Rising. We all loved it, and especially if it’s a road trip in December as that’s when the book is set. |

Neil Patrick Harris/ AKA Dougie Howzer wrote and voice acts these books.
https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Misfits-Neil-Patrick-Harris/dp/0316391824 They are well done. He also voice acts other books and is very good. Here's a list: https://www.audible.com/search?searchNarrator=Neil+Patrick+Harris&srsltid=AfmBOopWeyOCxHv_dbDk-NTvpoQCNNRIlIryXCizHDa7mdOJG0sJBuP2 |
| Ramona series read by Stockard Channing |
+1 My kids enjoyed these. You are vague about their gender and interests which could help us guide you. I also recommend Pie by Sarah Weeks. |
