Does anyone have insider information about Portledge School in Locust Valley?

What is the vibe?
Is your child happy there?
What kind of parents are there?
What do they excel in?

I know one kid there and have met a few of their classmates. The kid I know has lots of money but the kid is pretty down to earth and happy. Though the general vibe I get is over-privileged, conspicuous consumption Long Island. Not my crowd but YMMV.

Thank you!

I'm surprised about the vibe. Thought it would be one of the few low key privates in NY. It certainly isn't terribly elite.

My cousin went there. Now she's 30 and....let's just say doesn't have the life you are hoping for for your child. Realize that's only one person.

What's your public school? If your goal is an elite college, public is a much better strategy. But perhaps you have other goals.

I live in the area and the "elite" private is Friends Academy. I think Portledge is great but isn't as academic.

To piggy back, I was surprised by how many families at my kids' elementary were going to boarding school in this area. Deerfield/Hotchkiss are popular.
