Cash as a gift for daycare teachers?

Anonymous
We have 2 daycare teachers that have been amazing for our toddler.

We were thinking of giving $200 each in cash in an envelope. Is this tacky?

We could give a gift card but all the reviews for Amex and Visa gift cards are terrible.

I give cash in a holiday card signed by family and child to day care teachers. (TBH thats a very high amount compared to other families' tip/gift but generous and if you can, do; they don't get paid enough and its a rocky financial year for so many.)

to add to above... not tacky but i'd give a card with it/write how important they've been to child's growth.

We do Amazon gift cards but no not tacky. They’ll definitely appreciate it.

I think that’s generous and appropriate. I have typically given $100 in cash or easily used gift cards to classroom daycare teachers.

Whoa that seems like a lot and makes me rethink what I'm giving. There are 4 daycare teacher's in my toddler's room. How much is normal to give?

Cash is fine. It's easy. Gift cards are a PITA.

Cash is great when the amounts are generous like this. We often do Amazon gift card + write a note in a generic holiday card + our family photo card.

They will really appreciate it OP.

PP and wanted to add that I hate Visa gift cards bc of the fees. What a waste.

Yes cash is the only appropriate gift to these poor workers making $40k a year. They definitely don’t want a candle or your homemade cookies. I used to give around $400 per class of teachers split among them. So when we had three teachers, $150 each, two teachers got $200 each. That was ten years ago. I would be doing more now if you can afford it.

side question- why is cash ok only for large amounts? For some weird reason people on here think a $15 gift card is ok but not $15? I'd rather have the $15 since I'll spend more with the gift card (if I remember it at all)

We gave Amazon gift cards, $150 per teacher. They had 4 per classroom otherwise I’d have given more. Cash is fine too. We also included a card and a drawing by DC. Our daycare teachers were truly amazing.

Stuff the cash in their waistband & say, “Here you are, doll. Buy yourself something nice.”

While I personally would LOVE to receive that amount of ca$h as a holiday gift, I think it may be a little too much to gift your child’s daycare teacher.

I would either opt for a gift card to Target, etc. in a far lesser amount or possibly a small, token gift 🎁 such as a boxed bath set or some quality boxed chocolates.
