Question regarding DC area metro

Due to family issues - someone I know is now living on her own at a very young age. She just moved from a shelter to her own apartment and does not have a car.[mastodon]

Anyway - I'm coming back to the area and plan to take her to lunch and gift her a Metro card with $100. Where can I pickup a gift card loaded with $100 for transportation? Ideally before meeting her and I do not want to give her cash or a visa card.

Buy the Smartrip card. She should register it immediately so that she can recover the balance if it’s lost or stolen.

You don't need a card anymore. Tap on phone. Most all metropolitan systems have that option.
