Applying to transfer when you've applied before

Anonymous
Do you have intel or experience about whether any of these matter (for better or worse) if you apply to transfer as a sophomore?

-applied to the same school as a freshman and was admitted but turned down the admission offer
-applied to the same school as a freshman and was waitlisted (+/- the additional info that perhaps the school never went to the waitlist and/or the school was your top/ED choice)
-applied to the same school as a freshman and was rejected (+/- the additional info that perhaps the school was your top/ED choice)

Any intel or personal experience with any of these scenarios?

If you were rejected before, the chance you can transfer later is very low.

On the Yale admissions podcast they have said more than once that if you were rejected for first year admission there is no point in applying again. No idea if this applies to other schools or not.

Why looking to transfer? Careful what you wish for, as transferring for sophomore year can be devastating socially.

I know two kids that transferred to a school they didn't get into the first try. But these are big state schools and not ivys. If you have a kid going through the cycle right now, that's not something I would talk about. You also need really good grades and activities freshman year and if you aren't at the right school, that might not happen to pick the best of what you are offered now.
