So damn weary

I can’t focus at work. So much terribleness in the world. It’s like a tsunami and I’m running out of the ability to just pretend everything is okay.

On top of that we have serious ongoing strain because of family medical issues. Lots of concern about one of my children and marriage. Just so damn weary of this life.

You are not alone.

My head is about to explode over how dumb Americans are right now.

Turn off the news. Focus on what is in front of you.

Same. It’s all so depressing.

No every one should be watching the news. Everyone should be concerned. Turning off the news is not going to make things that are happening go away.

And the f flu going around!

Maybe you should take a mini break?

There is a difference between keeping generally informed and engaging in trauma porn. A lot of people mistake trauma porn for news. Horrible things happen. Horrible things have always happened. You can choose what you focus on and it’s better to pick something that you can actually engage in. Also, make a concerted effort to find positive news. While positives always exist, it’s harder to find because it’s the negative that sells.

But we know what happened. We don't need to see it over and over again. We don't need to look at memorials on Bondi Beach more than once, or see the Brown students sitting in silence in the library more than once. We don't need to hear whatever awful thing Trump said about Rob Reiner more than once. Once is enough.

What positives?
The bell ringers outside stores during holiday time?
Girl Scout cookie season?
Endless plastic people buy around this time of year?
Secret Santa for a person who is ill?
Snow icles that fall when you go out to walk?
Isolating before going to visit elderly relatives for holidays?
What exactly is the good news?

There is no good being done in your neighborhood, community, city, state? Nothing? All negatives?

You’re the captain of your ship. Go ahead with the course you’ve made for yourself.

NP. The only coverage of the Australian shooting I watched was the one person taking down the shooter. That's positive I think.

I have felt this way. We are cursed with genetic markers for a cluster of autoimmune diseases. My mother and I received diagnoses years ago. But recently, my daughter received a diagnosis, and my father was hospitalized for what we thought was a cardiac problem... which turned out to be another autoimmune disease in the same cluster. Which means BOTH my parents are carriers.

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop and for my other kids to be diagnosed at some point in their lives.

Take it one day at a time, OP.
