Swarthmore ED1

Anonymous
Is supposed to come out on the 16th at 7pm? Multiple dates are out there. Is anyone aware of other dates?

I think DC will get in even though the acceptance is somewhere between 10 - 20% or so, guesstimate, for ED. Will be ok if not.

DC is from feeder school (if that even exists - meaning 1-2 kids from school go to Swarthmore every year, Swarthmorecomes to school ecery year, classes are rigorous). Legacy. 4.3 egpa, 10 APs, 1480 SAT (not submitted, went test optional). Varsity athlete but not doing college sports. Extensive ec's with leadership (debate, robotics) and extensive volunteer hours. Can anyone else share stats for ED 1 application? Good luck to all!

Thanks for 12/16 confirmation!

Just an anecdote, but my DD was deferred ED1 but got in RD. She had similar stats and ECs were robotics and school leadership, but from an NYC private that doesn't regularly send kids to Swat (TBH I think Swat isn't into NYC kids in general).

Deferred seems like it would be kinda brutal. But, of course better than rejection! How did she handle the wait for RD? Also, congrats!

Double legacy, 4.0 wgpa, ec's student newspaper and varsity athlete (not recruited athlete), test optional, very strong volunteer experience over years.

My DC is also eagerly awaiting decision 12/16. Public non-feeder in the DMV. As with all public school candidates, 4.0 UW. Only 9APs, better test scores (submitted). Good ECs depending on what they are looking for. It's a very strong first choice - way ahead of second choice on DC's wish list, but we are feeling pessimistic.

It was brutal! She handled it well, and if you ask her now she will tell you that the upside was that she didn't have to question what her other options would have been had she gotten in ED. She ended up having several great schools to choose from, but in the end she did choose Swat. Apparently her experience was not unusual . . . she has a few friends who also were deferred before being accepted RD.

That's good to know there is a chance when deferred. Thanks.

Swarthmore has a lot of students from NYC, but if you you need to say things like that as your "copium," feel free.

Copium? She’s graduating from Swat in May.
