Dalton lower school culture?

Curious if anyone has perspective to share on the parent community in the lower school.

Not an expert but based on those I have met, there are a lot of status chasing entitled snobs, but plenty of normal families mixed in. I'm sure you will find your people, but might have to put up with others as well.

Well making that’s what they want to be around the status chasing snobs.

We are at Dalton and another of these top schools now- Dalton’s lower school is certainly more academic and goal-oriented than the other school which is more NYC-private norm progressive in lower school.

This pleasantly surprised us; there is less cohesiveness among the parent body that we can tell so far partly because the Dalton grades are so large and partly bec they seem more scattered around the city in residence. But everyone at both schools are very kumbaya and positive. Dalton is more down-to-earth than the other school.

Dalton has a huge range of families. The nice thing about a big class is that there is more chance to "find your people" so to speak. Lots of parents (both moms and dads) with typical NYC jobs...finance, lawyers, doctors, etc. Our grade does not have over the top flashy wealth from what I have seen thus far. This could be different in other grades. There is a big contingent of UWS families and also families who live downtown (and UES of course). A few live outside of Manhattan, but not many. Obivously we have clicked with some parents more than others, but overall, I have found most everyone to be friendly and engaged. We are very happy.
