Are influencers the new MLM huns?

Anonymous
I feel like I don't hear much about MLMs anymore. 20+ years ago I felt like I was being approached a lot by other moms at school, neighborhood, or even just randomly out in public. Now I never get that. I don't know if it's just because of my age (I'm in my early 50s now) or if it's that times have changed.
But now I feel like influencers are everywhere, and that influencers seem to be the same "type" that a lot of the MLM people were.

Are MLMs dying down, or is it just me and the phase of life that I'm in?

I feel like Covid killed the MLM trend. But I’m also in my 50s now and don’t hear about it anymore so it might be my age too.

Sounds about right.

"I just wanted to pop on here real quick today because this [random-ass product that no one needs] has changed my life!"

Lots of influencers are also trying to sell you their "courses" or ebooks on some random BS.

There is so much money to be made in these stupid courses. It's easy to convince people you have the secret to being successful at *insert some easy-sounding work-from-home gig that requires no education or experience here*. Make thousands flipping furniture! How to get out of debt thrifting and reselling on Poshmark! The one big secret to getting brand deals that will make you tons of money on Instagram!

Maybe but I think it’s a lot easier to post a video with a link to all the unknown people out there, as opposed to talking to someone face to face, or even to send an email out to your personal contacts. I’m also in my 50s so what do I know? Lol
