I'm looking for a timeless black evening bag that will match a lot of outfits. This isn't for very formal gala events, more like dressy dinner dates, Christmas parties, etc. I prefer gold or no holdware and ideally with a crossbody strap or handle. I like little bit of interest or polish, a patent leather, and architectural cut, etc. Budget is $400 and new or secondhand ideas are welcome.
What would you suggest? |

Did you see the college girl purse thread? Sounds like that’s what you are looking for.
Staud has some nice basic bags. Here’s a croco finished bag for $350. https://staud.clothing/products/ollie-bag-black-croco They also have cute beaded bags. Or look at Verified https://verafiedny.com/products/black-shoulder-bag?_pos=1&_fid=885c0e41e&_ss=c |
| Do not carry those above! |
The first one is nice but the second looks like a Queen Elizabeth purse. |
Patent leather is a very casual material. |
OP Here, thanks for the suggestions! I like the Staud one a lot! he other bag The Verified one is a bit more serious than what I was looking for but I'm glad to have found a new brand. |
No, it isn't. Honestly that's a bizarre take. |
| Cuyana used to have nice ones around that price too |
Ok no absolutely no Those are hideous |
| Bottega Veneta small black clutch. It's been my go-to for 20 years. I purchased directly from the factory back when they did tours and you could meet the artisans. Quite the experience. I also use a Kelly Pouchette in black crock for some events, and for more casual parties I like to check out the high street shops for fun clutches. |
| I have more classic taste but think these are all fine. The first one isn’t to my taste but I like it has a zipper. I would not buy the Tokyo because it doesn’t secure things from falling out or being pickpocketed which is important to me, but usually when I go out to fancy occasions I’m in a Euro capital where that is an issue. |
