Chicago at Christmas time

Anonymous
We booked a few days in Chicago for a long weekend right before Christmas and am just now getting around to planning it. My husband myself both love cities and Chicago and the kids are 11 and 13. They like the idea of seeing snow but I don’t think we can take too much outdoor time.

Any suggestions for things that are must do’s for the holiday season?? In nyc we go to rock center tree, shopping, ice skating etc I assume there will be similar things. Planning it now and would love any suggestions if anyone has been there/ done that.

It’s probably too late to get into the Walnut Room at Macys but you should definitely still go to the 5 story Macys that gets decked out for Christmas. State Street Christmas window displays are amazing. We did a trolley tour that stopped at Wrigley field and some other places and ended at Lincoln Park Zoo zoolights. For museums we loved the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute of Chicago. You really must get the pancakes and cinnamon rolls at Ann Sathers one morning.

Definitely the Christmas market. It looks like MARC sadly isn't doing their polar express out of Union Station due to construction.

So many neighborhood markets. Chicago neighborhoods are the best but in a short holiday trip it's beautiful just being downtown. The museums are amazing too. Like better than Smithsonian. You'll love just strolling down MI Ave. just be and take in the scenery Chicago will always be home to me and I can tell you places ti go but honestly for just a short visit, you don't need that much to check off your list.. wander downtown and you'll find enough - that's the beauty of a city like Chicago or NYC
