Is this basically not a thing these days? Or very hush hush?
A friend has a 50% discount at SSSAS. Or at least did like 3 years ago.
50% is pretty typical. Most schools offer something.
It's not a secret if you're actually staff.
Have heard the same from a friend who teaches there. |
The top independents don't offer much of a discount, per se. However, when calculating financial aid, the school removes the teaching parent's salary and bases the award on the salary of the other parent. If that other parent has a high-paying job (I'd say $200k or above), the teacher's family would not receive much aid. If the teacher is a single parent or if their spouse does not work, then the award will be higher. The one exception to this is St. Albans, which, because of the size of its endowment, can afford to be more generous to its faculty and staff.
Children of staff at Episcopal can attend as day students rather than boarders. That’s an interesting perk. Cheaper, certainly, but I wonder how it impacts the social experience.
Have a friend who works at one of the top 3, also gets 50%, and, is on financial aid, because spouse is at a not for profit.
Catholic school teacher here. I make about $55K/year, about half of what I made as a fed 15 years ago. Sad. 50% tuition discount. Spouse makes very high salary but that’s not taken into account.
