Consequences

Are there any consequences for a bad OSSE report card?

Of course. Parent pushback, loss of enrollment, loss of reputation, loss of support from community and donors. But it's not really about the report card, it's a consequence of the data that goes into it. If we didn't have the report card, we would still have the data so there would still be consequences.

Potentially in DCPS, replacement of the principal or other administrators, or other intervention-- central office has a lot of discretion here.

Potentially in charters, conditions for renewal or non-renewal. And replacement of senior admins by the Board of each individual school. Intervention by the bigger organization if it's a school like KIPP or Rocketship or Harmony that has many sites in DC and other states.

No *immediate* consequences, no. They look at patterns. Several bad OSSE report cards is when the repercussions begin.

They look at patterns and they also have more information than the public does. If there are reasons for poor performance they may address those reasons specifically (like with, say, tutoring) but most people don't really notice.

Thank you. How much time does principals & school districts have the report card data before it’s available to the public?

Schools see the Report Card at the same time as the public. They have the data that goes into it (CAPE scores, attendance, survey results) for several months beforehand though.
