I'm booking a stay and have been incredibly unimpressed. Their reservation system I guess broke and they couldn't find my reservation. Then there were duplicate reservations they promised didn't exist. The online spa booking system says there is no availability for any spa appointments ever for the next like 6 months. I can't get people to return my emails, and I get misinformation when I call. I don't get it. This place charges like $1,200 a night for room only in suburban Virginia. I would really expect the service to be minimally competent.
It’s always been a lot for a little. For years now, they’ve been trading on the Middleburg vibe and the fact that it’s less of a haul than the Greenbrier.
Just go for the day. Not worth it.
Had our worst stay there a year ago. Chaotic checkin, zero requests we made in advance acknowledged. My steak at dinner was inedible - burned beyond recognition. Zero apologies. Biggest waste of money. I do not understand who they are bribing to remain on any top list.
Not worth it - at all. Employer-funded trips only. Not paying for that sh*z myself
I recently canceled my stay there where I was prepared to drop like 10k on a long weekend after nightmarish service leading up to the stay. They promised me a comped night to make it up to me and never gave it to me! I followed up. They apologized and said it’s coming later. Still nothing!
We stayed there several years ago. Very self impressed place based on nothing! Awful service. Meh dining. The only place I can recall we ever sent a wine back. Sommelier came over all judgey and we had to urge him to taste it. He took it back. Corked.
It hasn't been good since like 1999.
It didn't open till about 2012. I liked it in the twenty teens when it was several hundred a night if you picked the right nights. I don't think it's worth a thousand. |
the spa has always been weird. they hardly ever answer the phone or get back to people.
I’ve literally never heard or read anything positive about it.
We stayed there two weeks ago and it was very frustrating. We confirmed in advance that the indoor pool would be open (we have a toddler) and even had the concierge direct us to it, despite it being closed. Every time we passed the concierge after this, she asked if someone from management had contacted us yet, but no one ever did They also double charged us for the stay. Room was nice and restaurants good but very frustrating service from the hotel itself.
Unless you’re attending a special event they’re hosting and you don’t want to drive, I would be remiss to spend that amount on the Salamander. It’s a lovely stay under the rightt conditions but there are so many better ways to spend 1200.
Had a mixed experience on our stay. Our room was lovely and we enjoyed our time in Middleburg and at the spa but the service at the hotel was unimpressive. Whatever hotel activity we inquired about was at full capacity, even breakfast was hard to come by without a reservation.
