| A lot of people in this forum say these sports cut now, so what times are needed? |
| What school? Many, many schools do not make any cuts, especially for distance runners. Others might. |
| Cross country is typically a no-cut sport. |
FCPS. I know for swimming, there are cuts to the point where many people who grew up with club swimming get cut |
| Not sure what they are, but definitely minimum times at our FCPS. |
| I believe XC and track do not cut at our FCPS high school. For kids not big into distance running, track has many other events between sprints, hurdles, jumps and throw. |
|
Our HS has a XC competitive program and from the sports website it looks like a freshman girl needs to be able to run a 7:30 mile and boys 6:30. There is a time trial on the track the first few days of practice. The times go down for older ages groups. There is a caveat that if you are close- you can try again in a week.
The times are not posted for winter and spring track but I think it is top 8 finish in the time trials. |
6:30 is pretty fast |

My fcps HS has a very strong XC program and they will not cut if you can run 1.5 miles initially and have the desire to improve and work hard.
Same with sprints/field events. So many kids are trying track for the first time in HS. I’m impressed with the winter track kids. The weather has been no joke, and they are outside everyday. |
| Our MCPS HS is no cut for XC. |
| If you're asking the question now it's obviously too late for XC in 2025, and indoor track has already started and held the first meet of the season. |
| If you search for your school on athletic.net you'll be able to see the times that runners posted in meets in previous years |
it is not fast for a teenage boy who wants to run XC or track |
| Bossa nova on rewind |
