Bomb Threats

Why are schools getting so many gun/bomb threats? Apparently Fairfax High School had to evacuate today due to a (luckily unfounded) bomb threat. DC said that this is very common at her school as well as across the county. Can’t FCPS do something about this?

I'm an old lady. Happened all the time when I was in high school. It's probably the kids calling them in. Used to be easy before caller ID.

Bomb threats have been happening since the 70s - at least. The fact that they evacuated to the stadium is very unusual. I don’t know any school that has done that.

Fire alarms and bomb threats happened in the 80’s and 90’s. We knew when there was a big test and one of the slackers or type A students was freaked out and pulled the fire alarm. The stressed out top student seemed to do it about as frequently as the slacker who knew they couldn’t flunk this one.

We had one at my Catholic HS in the 90s. They dragged us all out to the parking lot for 45 minutes and when we were let back in, they locked us in the classrooms and searched all the lockers. But that was 400 kids not the 2000+ at FCPS schools.

Sixties. Fact..we had many. Evacuated to parking lot while lockers were searched.. Administration finally said we would have to stay after school to make up time. Threats stopped.

Because teen boys are a-holes and their parents treat them like babies.

What do you expect FCPS to do about it? Kids are making the calls. It's up to FCPD if there are charges (assuming they can find out who did it)

Or, it could be girls doing it.

I teach at FHS. We were evacuated to the stadium while they brought in buses to load up the kids and get them warm. Thankfully it wasn't raining or bitter cold like Monday. The Evac went well. The return was a mess with people just swarming back into school to get bags etc. Since it happened right at B lunch, lots of kids did not get to eat lunch until 3pm. Remind your kids to dress for the weather. There were kids in shorts and crop tops with no hoodies or jackets.

Did they go through the metal detectors on the way back in?
