| Any experience with orchestra at Wesleyan? I have the impression that the academic music department is very good and there are many artsy and musically inclined students, but there are a few pictures of the orchestra from the past few years on the music dept instagram and it looks really, really small. Maybe the pictures I was looking at weren’t the entire orchestra, but it made me wonder. Any info on what the orchestra is like, size, level, social experience, etc? |

I’m sorry not to be able to answer your specific question, but I just saw a student-produced show at Wesleyan, and the score was written and performed by students. It was really impressive. My sense from my Wes kid (artsy but not an instrumentalist) is that there are lots of opportunities for musicians on campus.
Also, these pages have more information, including contact info for the music director, in case you want to reach out: https://www.wesleyan.edu/music/ensembles/orchestra.html https://orchestra.site.wesleyan.edu/ Good luck! |

| I found a program from their concert in 2024 (that's the most recent one I could find) and it seems like they have a well-stocked wind and brass section but crazy low numbers of string players (1 viola, 4-5 firsts and seconds). It seems like it used to be a lot bigger (and toured!), though, so I'm not sure what happened. |
