Do ED schools notify private school counselors ahead of decision date?

Anonymous
I am wondering if they let school counselor know a few days early, or if school counselor can see the results on a shared platform? At least a hint?

Yes, they send their favorite private school counselors a text letting them know about their favorite students in advance. /s

Are you joking OP?

Yes.

Signed, a former HS teacher who was close with college counseling. I usually found out a day or 2 before.

Perhaps, but I've never heard of the CC sharing this info with the student in advance. Maybe they know a day or two in advance, but they keep this info to themselves.

Feeder school yes. Typically a phone call letting them know how many kids they are talking this year.

Perhaps not sharing directly with the students. But they would begin prepping rejected kids for RD.

Not early than the kid is notified, but my dd's HS counselor knew before she told him that she had gotten into her ED.

Not anymore. "Counselor calls" are mostly dead.

How long ago was this? Years? Decades?

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think private school counselors get tipped off ahead of time. Unless perhaps it is regarding a super connected kid? I think our counselor was genuinely surprised (and thrilled) by my dc ED acceptance to an ivy last year. We called her the next day and she seemed shocked and so excited for my kid. Our school has excellent college placement but I don't think they know ahead of time. Or perhaps she's a great actor? My kid was a good fit but the school was a high reach.

I'm a HS counselor and I have already had one and have several more counselor calls scheduled with schools this week in advance of next week's releases. Definitely not dead.

2 years ago. To be fair, I worked at a private with a class of maybe 70-80 kids. Lots of ED & lots of parent involvement. It was best for all parties involved if CC knew ahead of time.
