Gmafb, these places are not remotely comparable real estate wise. Eastern MoCo is expensive guys.

The Frederick Municipal Airport must be one of those lovely amenities you were referring to. That place is right next to it! And what a spacious 4,000 square foot lot!

They're not? One is bigger, but has no yard, and the other is smaller but still plenty big enough at least for us. I can see different people preferring either.

That's like saying the sky is blue. Of course different people prefer different things.

But try to find any single family home built since 2023 that sold for under $750k anywhere in Montgomery County in the last year. You'll find a couple in Clarksburg. None in eastern MoCo.

Look at what's available at different price points in each place. Frederick is absolutely less expensive.

You can buy a house, just not the one you may want. We got a small fixer upper that we could afford at the time and mostly DIYed. It's about choices. If people would stop overpaying that would help too.

Okay, yes people can buy houses they don't want, and I would argue that is the definition of overpaying lol. But this is a discussion about whether MCPS teachers who buy in Frederick do so only to escape Black and Brown kids. So you're saying they might just have other reasons not to buy in eastern MoCo. Great, I am glad we agree!

The teachers aren't trying to escape Black and Brown kids-- they want to keep their own current or future kids away from Black or Brown kids in school.

FYI, that Frederick house goes to TJ high school, one of the more struggling high schools in FCPS.

Most teachers under the age of 40 can’t afford a home like that anyways unless they have a well paid spouse.

I don’t think this is fair. I teach at a DCC school and many of the teachers live close by to the school
