December 9, 2025 Hello FCPS Staff and Families, I am writing to share a news release that will be posted to our website today, following the release of Virginia’s first School Performance and Support Framework. Thank you for your trust and partnership as together -- we continue to do great things across Fairfax County Public Schools! Warmest regards, Dr. Michelle Reid Superintendent Fairfax County Public Schools Showcase Success in the First Year of Virginia’s New School Performance and Support Framework All Fairfax County Public Schools remain fully accredited, even as the state transitions to the new School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). Adopted by the Virginia Board of Education in September 2024, this framework includes less flexibility for supporting student growth. Regardless, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is pleased to share that the majority of our schools have been recognized as “distinguished” or “on track” - including all of our comprehensive high schools - by new state and federal performance measures. “FCPS remains a world-class school division, with five of the top 10 elementary schools and seven of the top 10 high schools in Virginia,” says Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. “We are proud of everything that we have achieved together, through the dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the hard work of our students.” This first year of SPSF ratings released today, reflects data from the previous 2024-25 school year. The new system places greater emphasis on standardized test mastery and less emphasis on individual student growth, as well as graduation and readiness indicators that vary across grade levels. Under the new system, a school’s SPSF rating can be lowered if it receives a federal designation, such as Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI), based on the performance of one or more student groups. Seventeen FCPS schools met state requirements to be “On Track” but were reclassified because of this TSI identification. While a number of factors may have contributed to schools’ TSI identification under the state’s revised criteria, the change in the minimum group size for accountability from 30 students to 15 students clearly had a significant impact. Through our Strategic Plan, FCPS acknowledges and continues to develop new strategies to better serve and support all of our students. “FCPS remains committed to transparent communication, strong academic expectations, and supporting every student’s unique learning needs, hopes, and dreams.” Dr. Reid added. “This new framework will not change our focus on excellence, equity, and opportunity for all students.” |

It looks like ES are the ones that were lowered, a few MS. The alternative HS are the ones struggling.
I am guessing the ESs are all Title 1 or near Title 1. |
