Worksheet after Worksheet

We moved here from out of state at a math and science charter school. Since enrolling at MCPS, I have never seen so many worksheets! My kid, who used to love math, now hates it. At his precious school, they used a lot of different tools to teach math concepts and the kids enjoyed them. They also sent far less time on chromebooks doing Zearn exercises.

I feel like my kid who uses to be excited about learning’s brain is just turning to mush.

My kid never uses a Chromebook for math in ES. Not sure where you are but this sounds like a school issue not an MCPS one.

Second grade Eureka is slow (so many strategies!) but my three mathy kids have loved every other year. It’s a great curriculum (naturally, it’s being replaced next year. Sigh.)

That doesn’t sound like anything in our experience either. Agree that it sounds like a school issue or even an issue with a particular teacher.

I would suggest that you take the opportunity to visit on parent visiting days and also to go to BTSN in the future so you know do sure to are getting the full picture.

Your previous school used math time for infotainment instead of math and now your kid is struggling to complete basic math problems?

Its crazy. Some teachers even have textbooks but prefer worksheets.

MCPS curriculum does not always align with the textbook.

I think we should go back to textbooks for some subjects such as math. That way the student will have all the resources in one location and well organized. For some students, organization is very difficult and the classes are too large for teachers to help each student individually to organize their notebooks.
