Is there any specific way anyone is planning to open their notifications?
Are the kids planning to open on their own alone first? Did anyone talk about this part; if dc will do/not do solo, or record when opening or whatever plans there may be? |
| DS has been getting email notifications during the school day and texts us the news. It’s not like when we were applying and the answer arrived in the mailbox. |
| She just opens them in her car before driving home from school. Not everyone likes fanfare. |
| Our kids opened their own decisions and let us know what they said. |
| Good. Lord. |

Op here
I had no idea, some people make all these plans and I thought it was something people do normally. |
+1 SMH. |
|
We will have the tripod set up to record us all watching dc open the emails. I have a sweatshirt and streamers for each school they applied to and will bring them out if it is an acceptance and play their fight song.
If it is a rejection then we will all go outside and smash the 4 ceramic place settings I also bought that have the colors of each college they applied to. Of course we will not film that. We did this for our oldest and it was great. |
|
So it’s a ceremony now?

I don’t know people like this. |
|
My kid leaves HS at 2:30pm so will be home to open it at 3.
Letting him decide what he wants to do, Our firstborn opened them at kitchen table— we didn’t record or go any of that nonsense. |
| Waiting on an ED notification for my kid soon. Expect to be deferred, if not rejected outright because the chance is 1 in 10. In the very unlikely event that my kid is accepted, we will only start thinking how to celebrate. Don't want to put the cart before the horse. Sorry for the pessimism. |
| We have no plan. I assume he will open when he feels like or is aware of a notification. He is likely to be occupied with a school activity when the first ones are posted on Friday. I just hope he shares the news with us as soon as he knows. |

My kid was so stressed he actually vomited before opening his ED decision. Fortunately we weren’t witnessing any of this, and he got it in.
It made me realize how much stress these kids are under, and the best thing we can do is just downplay the whole thing. It’s a horrible process for high achieving kids. |
Just because you see it on social media doesn't make something the norm. |
