Small universities or liberal arts colleges for a B-average student who wants STEM?

GPA is pretty low, around 3.3, but she has taken many rigorous courses. Extra curriculars just okay, not stellar. SAT 1280. Wants a small school (open to liberal arts colleges) anywhere in the Northeast corridor or even further out if close to a major airport. Intended STEM major, probably bio or chem, maybe environmental. Doesn't care about athletics. What would you recommend?

3.3 from a private high school? If so, I would consider Tulane, Scripps, etc. (ED) depending on how rigorous is the high school.

Loyolas.

Are you in Maryland? St. Mary’s College of Maryland could be a fit. My kid (not STEM, though) is very happy.

WPI. It's a tech school that feels like a liberal arts school in many ways. Open to lower GPAs. Lots of support available.

Options may differ if it’s a 3.3 from a public vs. private high school. At our private school, students with a 3.3 get into liberal arts colleges like Oberlin, Skidmore, and Dickinson. If from a public school, I’d suggest options such as Juniata, Wooster, Susquehanna, etc. Somewhere like St. Mary’s College of MD may be a good fit for your student (they are strong in environmental and bio programs). I like the suggestion of the Loyolas, as well as other mid-size Jesuit institutions, which are within reach for B/B+ students.

+1 these were all on the list for my B+ DD who wanted bio/environmental science. Ended up at Juniata. If in-state VA, UMW is a good option too.

Perhaps consider schools with notable science lab facilities?

St. Lawrence, for example, would appear to be feasible.

OP: We're not in Maryland but this school has been recommended to us before and dc is interested. I would love to know more about your kid's experience. What do they like about the school? What's the social feeling? Decent academics?

You have gotten some really good suggestions. Maybe Clark U, too? Muhlenberg?
